Controlling the H1N1 Virus

During this time of heightened awareness of the H1N1 flu virus, Brenham Clinic Physicians encourage all members of our community to follow the guidelines of infection control.

• Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.
• Cover your cough—throw tissue away immediately.
• Cough into your elbow.
• Stay out of public contact if you have fever greater than 100 degrees.

Hand washing is the single best defense we have. Additionally, please be aware of the signs and symptoms of the flu. Anyone with a fever greater than 100 degrees should avoid being in public and should be seen by a healthcare provider.

The CDC (Center for Disease Control) provides the following information regarding the H1N1 virus:

• Wash your hands with soap and water often and thoroughly especially after you cough or sneeze. Hand washing is the single best defense we have. Hand sanitizer gel is also effective.
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
• Do not come into work sick, i.e. high fever, cough, congestion, vomiting, diarrhea. Limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
